Exercise Therapy

Exercise therapy is an exercise prescription that is provided by a doctor or rehabilitation specialist such as a clinical exercise physiologist. It takes into account a patient’s current medical conditions when specifying the types of exercises to perform, intensity, duration, and frequency. Exercise therapy uses the study of biomechanics, how the body adapts in response to physical activity with both acute and chronic conditions and the mechanisms by which exercise can reduce or reverse disease progression to create personalized exercise prescriptions.

Exercise therapy can help control chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure and prevent future health problems while improving quality of life. Exercise therapy is beneficial for everyone but especially for people with mild to severe health conditions when properly prescribed and administered.
